JDOTT

President’s Address from Dr. Kenneth Durgans

Greetings To All JDOTT Members:

I truly hope that this letter finds you in good health!  Since our inception August 7, 1997, JDOTT has been at the forefront of the national movement to systematically dismantle the obstacles of oppression that impede our progress as a people in higher education.  Recognizing the complexity of the many challenges confronting Black people, we have always and will continue to be mindful of the fact that reaching the goal of destroying the historical walls of alienation and deprivation plaguing our people in America will be difficult to achieve. Nevertheless, creating for future generations a viable roadmap that aptly navigates the most direct route(s) to achieving the goal of equity and equality remains an important tool to accompany them upon such a journey.  This is particularly true when the road is getting considerably rougher.

As an organization dedicated to the perpetuation of the culture of people of African decent we recognize and accept our responsibility: to lead rather than follow, to guide rather than pull along and to educate tomorrow’s leaders in the ways of conquering their struggles to achieve the ultimate victory of true equality!  We will continue the process that our Founders started of keeping abreast of the ever changing and innovative pedagogy, as well as, devise programs and policies designed to advance the cause of Black Faculty, Staff and Students working on Predominately White Campuses.   We will continue to contribute fresh innovative strategies and work in partnership with others to positively impact the lives of our students attending this nation’s colleges and universities.

Once again, standing upon the strong backs of our courageous ancestors, we begin a new academic season with a renewed commitment to the goal of harvesting the next generation of Black scholars. I look forward to working with everyone in an effort to continue the process of planting and nurturing the formidable seed of self-knowledge that is so important to our next generation’s ability to survive and flourish; and I remain extremely honored to share this most important journey with you!

Yours in the Struggle,

Hotep!
